- The director of UZEI, Imanol Urbieta, attended the commemorative event held in Barcelona, which brought together more than 200 guests at the Palau de Pedralbes to celebrate four decades of work in the service of the Catalan language.
Yesterday, TERMCAT, Centre de Terminologia, held a moving ceremony to commemorate its 40-year history. The event, which took place at the emblematic Palau de Pedralbes in Barcelona, was attended by the director of UZEI Terminologia eta Lexikografia Zentroa, Imanol Urbieta, highlighting the close collaboration between the two institutions.
The event began with a live recording of the podcast “Paraules habitables”, hosted by Anna Murgadas. The highlight was an interview with the director of TERMCAT, Jordi Bover, and the director of the Institut d’Estudis Catalans, Teresa Cabré, who reviewed the most important milestones of the past 40 years and emphasized the fundamental role of terminology as a tool for accompanying social change.
This was followed by a live interview with the Minister for Language Policy, F. Xavier Vila i Moreno.
The nearly 200 guests at the event were also able to visit the exhibition “Quaranta anys acompanyant canvis socials a través dels termes” (Forty years accompanying social change through terms), which took them on a journey through the centre’s history and social impact.
A 40-year history
Termcat was founded in 1985 and, although other terminology centres had already been created by then, it soon became one of the world’s leading terminology organisations.
Over the decades, the partnership between UZEI and Termcat has proved highly fruitful and valuable in tackling shared challenges. For instance, the sharing of knowledge and resources has allowed both organisations to make the most of their resources.
