In addition to the terminology in the Romance languages, the lexicon compiles more than 200 terms in Basque.
This vocabulary has been compiled by the General Delegation for the French Language and the Languages of France (DGLFLF), attached to the French Ministry of Culture, on the eve of the Rugby World Cup 2023, in collaboration with REALITER Network of Pan-Latin Terminology, the Public Office of the Occitan Language, the Permanent Congress of the Occitan Language, and the Basque Centre for Terminology and Lexicography UZEI. Its aim is to make rugby terminology in Romance and Basque languages more widely known among players, fans and spectators. The lexicon includes equivalents in Catalan, Spanish from Spain and Argentina, French from Quebec and France, Galician, Italian, Portuguese from Portugal and Brazil, Romanian, as well as in Occitan languages and Basque.
More than 200 terms have been compiled that relate to players positions, general defensive and offensive techniques, rules, fouls and penalties, and even essential equipment needed by players.
