The EAFT Terminology Summit: successful and interesting

news, Terminology

A week has already passed since the EAFT Terminology Summit took place at the Kursaal Congress Centre, and the organisers (EAFT and UZEI) are very satisfied with the results of the work done.

The Summit was the meeting point for a hundred participants, among whom were professionals working for organisations and institutions from all over Europe, including several from the Basque Country. Based on our impression and the feedback received, we can say that the two days of the Summit were very successful. The truth is that it was an excellent opportunity to share ideas and interesting projects, as well as to create new professional relationships.

And it was also an opportunity for fun and personal enrichment! Among others, the social event First steps in Basque language: a city walk in San Sebastian, which was a tour of San Sebastian by Xabi Paya, Larraitz Ariznabarreta and Maddalen Arzallus, was held in collaboration with the Basque Institute Etxepare. The social event was truly interesting, as it introduced the participants to the cultural reality of the Basque language and the Basque Country. Furthermore, during the event GarbiƱe Iztueta received them at the Etxepare Basque Institute and presented the institution and its activities.

Finally, and luckily, the last day of the Summit coincided with the first day of the Euskaraldia, which gave the foreign participants of the Summit the unique opportunity to witness this initiative live. Many of them who speak minority languages told us that they think that Euskaraldia is an extraordinary idea, and that in their opinion the possibility of carrying out an initiative of this type in their respective countries would be extremely interesting.

Below we have added some images of those two particularly fruitful days. Over the next few weeks we will upload the presentations made by the speakers on the Summit website.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our warm gratitude to all those who took part in the Summit.

The next EAFT Summit will be held in Dublin in 2020, and the previous one took place in Luxembourg in 2016. In addition to being a valuable event for consolidating a European platform for terminology and multilingualism, the EAFT Terminology Summit is undoubtedly an excellent opportunity to get a different view of the countries of Europe!
