- Euskalterm results have been integrated into several specialized dictionaries published by UZEI
The bilingual glossary (Basque–English), which contains a total of 1,379 entries, now offers a new search feature: with a single click, users can perform searches directly in Euskalterm. Thanks to this functionality, users can also look up terms that do not appear in the MZT dictionary through Euskalterm, the Public Terminology Bank.
Integration of Euskalterm results into UZEI’s specialized dictionaries
This new feature is part of a broader development. Results from Euskalterm have been integrated into several specialized dictionaries developed by UZEI, allowing users to carry out more comprehensive terminology searches. From now on, when a search is performed in UZEI’s dictionaries, the system will automatically consult Euskalterm as well. If the requested term is not found in the dictionary, it will be searched for in Euskalterm, and the results will be displayed directly within the same application, with the source clearly indicated.
The integration has been implemented in several UZEI dictionaries, including the Dictionary of Climate Change and Ecological Transition, the Dictionary of Architecture, the Kirolkidea sports dictionaries, the Terminology of the Tour, and the Terminology of Fixed-bench Rowing. This allows users to consult terminology from two key sources within a single interface, simplifying the search process and providing access to complementary information.
This development was supported by the Department of Culture and Language Policy of the Basque Government.
Next steps
Although the glossary does not currently provide definitions, each entry includes a “context” field showing how the term was used in the 2018 edition of the Materials Science and Technology Congress (MZT).
Eleven experts from the following institutions collaborated with UZEI on the project: CEIT, Leartiker, Mondragon Unibertsitatea, Tecnalia, and the Gipuzkoa School of Engineering, Polymat, and the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of the Basque Country.
This resource is a useful tool for the Materials Science and Technology community, as it promotes consistent and coherent use of terminology. In addition, thanks to the integration of Euskalterm, users can directly access content from a public and standardized terminology source, complementing the information provided by the specialized dictionary.
In the future, the lexicon will continue to be updated, and new terms emerging from upcoming congresses will be added. UZEI’s digital dictionaries will also continue to provide unified terminology searches, helping to facilitate the use of technical and scientific resources in Basque.
