Twice a year, the Academy of the Basque Language updates its normative dictionary. In this year’s first update, 795 new forms have been incorporated and 1,515 more have been corrected or completed, as recently reported.
As with every update of the normative dictionary, UZEI has launched a new version of Hobelex, its spell checker, with the inclusion of the most recent forms approved by the Academy.
Hobelex not only recognizes the forms standardized by the Academy, but also anticipates the Academy’s recommendations, and also takes into account those forms that, although not yet officially fixed, are considered appropriate according to the criteria established by the Academy and the Terminology Commission.
To make this possible, UZEI is constantly expanding its lexical database, euLEX, by incorporating those forms that are still awaiting official recognition. In recent months, hundreds of these forms have been added to the database, allowing the Hobelex checker to already consider them and recognize them as appropriate.
A more convenient online version
With the latest update, Hobelex offers an improved experience in its online version, now available on the UZEI website without the need for installation. The experience has been optimized so that corrections are applied directly in the text field, and once made, the corrected content can be copied for use in other applications.
In addition, the colors that differentiate the different types of corrections have been adjusted, making it easier to identify and understand the suggestions.
